The business
Island Landscapes have been delivering commercial landscaping since 1986. Over 85 people, operating from Colchester across London and the Eastern Counties.
Hard and soft landscaping, fencing and timber, arboricultural work, play areas, show homes, maintenance and customer care. NHBC registered, SMAS accredited, City & Guilds trained.
“Payroll used to take over the back end of every week. Now it's a fraction of that, and I'm not chasing people for information I should already have.”
Landscaping has the same problem as brickwork
Different trade, identical headache. A dispersed workforce, CIS deductions, HMRC verification, and a monthly return that has to be right.
Vyce wasn't built only for brickwork. It was built for anyone paying subcontractors under CIS, which includes a great many businesses who don't think of themselves as construction.
Vyce Pay
Subcontractors are verified with HMRC before payment, at the rate HMRC returns. Deductions calculate automatically. Payments run on Island's instruction. The monthly CIS300 files from data that's already in the system.
For an accounts manager, the change isn't dramatic — it's just that the week stops ending in a scramble.
What it means
The best thing a finance system can do is stop being the thing you think about. Island don't think about payroll much any more, which is the highest praise it's likely to get.
